Service Dog Equipment Can Help You Avoid Fines and Harassment

Posted

Service dog owners know that service dogs and service dog equipment come in all shapes and sizes and perform a variety of functions for their humans. Unfortunately, that's not something the general public knows, and it's also something that service dog imposters take advantage of for their own benefits.  Florida is cracking down on imposter service dogs by enacting a law that will make falsely claiming an animal is a service animal punishable by a $500 fine and up to 60 days in jail.

This law will help cut down on the number of imposters while hopefully allowing true service dogs to be in public without harassment. Business owners are understandably frustrated with the number of false service animals visiting their businesses. These so-called service dogs can be loud, distracting, cause damage to the property, or even pose a risk to the other patrons. Business owners are encouraged to ask questions and observe how the dog is behaving to judge whether or not it is a legitimate service animal.

Of course, using the right service dog equipment for your pet can go a long way towards eliminating the issues when you are out in public. Pick up a service dog vest or harness and make sure you have the proper patches and identification for both you and your animal. This, along with your dog's trained behavior, can go a long way towards ensuring that you are able to bring your dog into various establishments in peace.
